Security was heightened in Nairobi on the inauguration day President Uhuru Kenyatta as opposition attempts to conduct a parallel rally to mourn the victims of post elections violence. At Kasarani stadium, the venue of swearing of President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto for a second term, security was beefed up after a jubilant crowd overpowered police office to access the venue.
Anti riot police lobbed teargas to disperse the crown, despite presence of tens of dignitaries, who had already taken their seats at the stadium.
At the same time, opposition leaders complained of being blocked from leaving their homes to attend a parallel rally at Jakaranda ground.
