Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli took over the leadership of Tanzania with a resolved to deal with both economic and social evils in the society. His government has sent leaders to jail over economic crimes and sent cold shivers down the spine of leaders whose visions are in variance with his.
To push for a better society with youth who adhere to moral standards required in the society, his government has banned smoking of shisha with immediate effect.
Shisha is popular among the urban youth all over the world since it is considered classy although health experts warn that its implications are worse than cigarettes.
However, this is not the reason shisha is not welcome in Tanzania, according to Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa.
Mr Majaliwa said smoking shisha leads to indulgence in serious vices in the society and told pubs to stop offering the service or face the full force of the law under the new administrations.
According to doctors, shisha tobacco causes lungs and bladder cancer as a one-hour smoking is equavlent to 100 to 200 times the volume of smoke inhaled from one cigarette.
