Kisumu Senator Prof Anyang’ Nyongo has described Budalangi Member of Parliament Ababu Namwamba as a lair who is looking for excuses to decamp from the party.
Prof Nyong’o dismissed claims that he has never handed over to Mr Namwamba when he stopped being secretary general of Orange Democratic Movement.
“At no time has my friend drawn my attention to any of his handicaps that he is currently churning out. I am tempted to conclude that he is on some fishing expedition to find faults with the ODM and its leadership,” said Prof Nyong’o.
Mr Namwamba was quoted in sections of the media as saying that Prof Nyong’o never handed over to him when he became the Orange party’s secretary general in the wake of speculation that he is on the verge of completely severing links with the party as a result of frustrations.
Mr Namwamba has been at loggerheads with a section of ODM leaders, claiming that he was being frustrated and was unable to discharge his duties properly as the party’s spokesman.
He teamed up with a team of ODM MPs from Western Kenya, among them Funyala MP Paul Otuoma, who has since resigned as party vice-chairman to issue warning that they are on the verge of leaving the party if their grievances are not addressed.
The party convened an urgent meeting that was chaired by party leader Raila Odinga to resolved the differences in vain.
But in a press release to journalists, Prof Nyong’o denied Mr Namwamba has been unable to discharge his responsibility due to lack of support from the party officials.
“Mr Ababu Namwamba’s claim that I have never handed over to him as Secretary General is disingenuous and false. Ever since he took over as the ODM SG we have had an “open door” policy for consultation whenever necessary,” added Prof Nyong’o.
