President Uhuru Kenyatta and Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho faced off once again at the coastal city of Mombasa during the opening of a foot bridge.
Mr Joho fired the salvo when he told President Uhuru to his face that the project was initiated by the Grand Coalition Government in 2010 and Jubilee administration should not take credit.
According to Mr Joho, Buxton bridge was funded by World Bank under Kenya Municipality project that was spearheaded by retired president Mwai Kibaki and prime minister Raila Odinga.
“Mr president I know history of this project very well. This was started in 2010 under municipality project and was funded by the World Bank. I will be happy if Jubilee could also release some billions for Mombasa County projects,” said Mr Joho who was standing next President Uhuru in Bamburi.
But when taking the podium, President said his government has invested close to Ksh 3.2 billion in the region to upgrade slums, bridges and foot paths.
The two leaders faced early last when the Mombasa Government complained that the president visited the county without involving him in the itinerary.
The government responded by crack down on Mr Joho’s family business network, which included closing down an inland port in Mombasa.
