Blow to IEBC as court cancels award of ballot-printing tender

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has run into trouble that could affect preparation for elections, slated for August after the court cancelled the tender in awarded to a Dubai company.
High Court judge George Odunga cancelled the Ksh25 billion tender, saying the electoral body did not take into consideration the existing legislative framework.
Cord moved to court to court after the procurement appeal board upheld the decision to award the tender Al Ghurair Printing and Publishing Company.
But according to Justice Odunda, IBEC did not follow the law in the whole process and directed them to start the process afresh.
CORD through lawyer James Orengo had contested the contract arguing that specifications on election materials in the tender documents were not in conformity with requirements of the amended law and the Integrated Electronic Electoral System.
